Band Orientation

Instruments of Praise will hold a band orientation meeting this August for those homeschool and christain school students and parents who are interested in joining the band! A meeting will be held in Oakridge and one in Sugar Land. We will have a music store at each meeting so that your student can see the instruments used for the beginner band. Those instruments are the flute, alto sax, clarinet, trombone, trumpet, and bell kit (percussion). Rentals can be done at the meetings! Mr. Sommer will be sharing what the band will be learning and will give you an opportunity to ask questions about the band program. There will be refreshments so let us know if you plan on attending the orientation and which location you plan on attending. “SOMMER” PRIVATE LESSONS

Mr. Sommer will be teaching private lessons on Wednesdays this summer at
Copperfield Church 8350 North Hwy 6 Houston, TX 77095. These lessons will
be 30 minutes each.

The dates of the 10 private lessons are as follows:
May 6, May 13, May 27, June 3, June 17, July 1, July 8, July 15, July 29,
August 5

If you miss any of these lessons, you will only be given one 30 minute make
up lesson on August 12.

The cost per 30 minute lesson is $25. There will be 10 lessons for $250.
You must pay for all 10 lessons no matter how many lessons your student is
absent. There will be no refunds whatsoever. You may make 2-3 payments
during the summer session. Checks are payable to Instruments of Praise.

The workbook(s) and/or sheet music that Mr. Sommer recommends for the
private lessons will be an extra cost above the lesson fees.

We would like you to email or call us as soon as possible to set up your
time slot . There will be slots from 9 A.M. – 5:00 P.M..

“Introduction to Band” 2009 Summer Band Camp

WOULD YOUR STUDENT LIKE TO LEARN TO PLAY A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT?

COME AND LEARN ABOUT INSTRUMENTS at THE 2009 “INTRODUCTION TO BAND” SUMMER CAMP on June 8th – 12th, 2009 at Cornerstone Christian Academy (First Colony Church of Christ) 2140 First Colony Blvd. Sugar Land, TX 77479 from 12:30 P.M.-2:30 P.M. (There will be 15 minute break in middle of these times.)

Mr. Paul Sommer, director of Instruments of Praise will be introducing various instruments at the camp. There will instruments for you to try so you can discover which instrument you will want to learn to play. The instruments that will be at the camp will be a FLUTE, TRUMPET, ALTO SAX, TROMBONE, CLARINET and PIANO/KEYBOARD, and BELL KIT (Percussion). You will learn the history behind each instrument and will learn some basic music theory. Fun musical games will be played and interesting videos on various instruments will be shown! The cost of the camp is $100 per student. All students must be 9 years old or older. Your student does not need to bring an instrument unless he has on already!

Instruments of Praise wins blue ribbons at TPSMEA

INSTRUMENTS OF PRAISE WINS BLUE RIBBONS AT TPSMEA COMPETITION!

Instruments of Praise is pleased to announce the TPSMEA solo and ensemble competition results which were held March 1, 2008 at The John Cooper School. All private and Christian school from the Texas South Region were able to participate in this competition. Way to go Homeschoolers! Full Honor Orchestra performed Die Fledermause Overture by Johann Strauss, Jr. and received a blue ribbon for a superior rating!! Advanced Strings performed Symphony #63 Finale by Haydn and received a blue ribbon for a superior rating!! There were students who performed solos on woodwinds, strings, piano, and brass. There were 6 blue ribbons awarded for class 1 rated songs, 6 red ribbons awarded for class 2 rated songs, and 8 white ribbons awarded for class 3 rated songs. CONGRATULATIONS to all students who participated in this competition. The blue ribbon groups and solos are eligible to go to state!
